Mutations are unique visual transformations that enhance crops with special effects while significantly increasing their Sheckles value. These transformations can be triggered by various in-game conditions including weather events, special tools, pet abilities, and admin events. Each mutation provides a different multiplier bonus and distinctive visual appearance, with some mutations being much rarer than others but offering substantially higher rewards.

Growth Mutations
Rare mutations that occur naturally during crop growth with very low probability. These include Gold (1% chance, x20 multiplier) and Rainbow (0.1% chance, x50 multiplier) variants.
Environmental Mutations
Mutations triggered by specific weather conditions, environmental factors, or special events. These range from common weather-based mutations to extremely rare celestial events.
Combination Mutations
Advanced mutations created by combining multiple existing mutations on the same crop, such as Clay (Wet + Sandy) or Frozen (Wet/Drenched + Chilled).
Pet-Applied Mutations
Specific mutations that can be applied through pet abilities, such as Gold from Dragonfly or Rainbow from Butterfly when a crop has 5+ mutations.

Screen Notifications
Several mutations display special notifications when they affect a crop. These include Moonlit, Bloodlit, Zombified, Gold (Dragonfly-applied only), Rainbow (Butterfly-applied only), Disco (Disco Bee-applied only), Pollinated, Chilled/Frozen (Polar Bear-applied only), Burnt/Cooked (Cooked Owl-applied only), and Verdant (Scarlet Macaw-applied only). No other mutations provide visual notifications.
Post-Harvest Mutations
Only two mutations can be applied after a fruit has been harvested: Dawnbound and Amber (when applied by Raptor). All other mutations must be applied while the crop is still growing on the plant.
Historical Bug
A previous glitch allowed flower-type plants with Wet/Chilled mutations to retain those mutations while gaining Frozen from the Flower Froster Sprinkler, creating an impossible combination. This issue was resolved during the Prehistoric Update.
Mutation Visibility
Players can view mutations on single-harvest crops or crops enhanced by the Magnifying Glass by hovering their mouse cursor over the plant, providing detailed mutation information.
Plant-Exclusive Mutations
Dawnbound stands as the only mutation that is completely exclusive to a specific plant type, being applicable solely to Sunflowers and no other crop variety.
Aging Mechanics
Amber mutations only age and evolve (into OldAmber and eventually AncientAmber) while attached to growing plants. Once harvested and stored in inventory, the aging process completely stops.
Multiplier Changes
Paradisal holds the distinction of being the only mutation to receive a significant multiplier adjustment, increasing dramatically from x18 to x100 in a game update.
Unknown Values
While Tempestuous mutation exists in the game systems, its exact value multiplier remained undocumented in early releases, though it has since been confirmed as x12.
